Kendriya Vidyalaya is a part of the Kendriya Vidyalaya
Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Ministry of HRD. The schools are
affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.
This school was founded in the year 1987 by the then
Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi for the people of Salt lake. We were born in a
small temporary building within the premises of KV No 1 Salt Lake. The first
Principal was Sri D.P.Choudhury. He was followed by Smt Sheila Pal. The school
saw two in-charge Principals Smt S.Bhattacharya and Shri K.K.Basu between 1996
to 1998. The Principal since 20th July 2006 is Mrs. Sangita Roy.
The school moved to the sprawling , architecturally
beautiful building in prime location opposite Nicco Park during December 1999.
It now has 1690 students . The school has two sections of Pre-Primary. There
are four sections in each class upto class VII, 3 sections upto class X and two
sections of science each in Classes XI and XII.
This is one of the schools which has two sections
in Pre-Primary. The Laboratories are well equipped . There is a Junior Science
lab to cater to the needs of the secondary classes. The school has an activity
room for the Primary classes. A Mathematics lab has been started to create
interest in Maths and also to reduce the phobia associated with Mathematics.
Information Practices, Computer science and Web Technology are taught as
elective subjects in the higher secondary level.
There is adequate space for the students to play
different games. There are courts for Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Football,
Kho-Kho. Students can also opt to play Table-tennis, cricket and Badminton.
There is an exclusive playfield for primary students.The Pre-Primary has their
own play equipment in their classroom.
Students are encouraged to participate in different
co-curricular activities. They can choose from a wide variety of vocational
skills. Facilities for Karate, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Music, Art and
Painting, Tabla are also available. The school is affiliated to the Prayag
Samity so that students can obtain certificates for the above.
The faculty is very good for all academic and
co-curricular activities. There are two computer labs with 43 computers and the
third Computer lab will be commissioned soon with 15 Computers . The school can
boast of a broad band connection. All computers are connected through
Networking and Internet sharing.
The
KV is upto class XII and it is a four section school from class 1 to 8 and
class 9 and 10 three sections and class 11 and 12 science with two sections.
